Laszlo!
It is so good to hear from you again...
One of the big meaningful things in life though is air shows, and despite the
budget pressures that we are all very directly feeling in the Air Force, Scott
AFB is planning another one for September of 2012. Now we do not yet have
our big acts lined up, but you know that we will be at ICAS in a couple of weeks
(we are sending Maj Randy Naylor, our air boss, and Mr. Mike Zipfel, our services
director) to sort it all out (we're hoping for the T-Birds this year).
We very much owe our local community this air show but the real challenge this
year will be funds. In 2010 I spent $225,000 of government money to host
it, but this year my budget will be somewhere between $50,000-$150,000. I'm
challenging my team to think creatively on how we generate alternate revenue
without breaking any of the rules.
Unfortunately, I won't personally be here next September as my two years as a
commander here will come to an end in June. However, this is all about
setting the next team up for success. My goal is to again put forth an
air show worth attending and writing about, and we look forward to your journey
South if you can make it. We'll keep you posted on all the details (we
now have a Scott AFB Facebook site with almost 5,000 fans to keep everyone informed)
and look forward to our future dialogue and engagement.
V/r,
Mike
